KOINONIA PASTORS RETREAT

They were devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
Acts 2:42

WHAT IS KOINONIA?

In this well-known passage of Scripture above, the Greek word for fellowship is koinonia. It was one of the keys to the health and growth of the New Testament Church—listed in the same breath as doctrine and prayer.

Pastors are usually pretty good about prayer and devoting themselves to the study of the Word of God. But when it comes to fellowship with others—especially other pastors—they fall short. The success of the early church seems to be in part that they were doing a few things really well: in this case, Spirit-led fellowship/partnership (koinonia), the breaking of bread, and prayer. Together.

But there is another koinonia in the New Testament that is even more important than this one. It’s easy to miss this last line of Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians: “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship (koinonia) of the Holy Spirit be with you all” (2 Cor. 13:14).

The fellowship of the Holy Spirit! Koinonia with Him! Can we pause for a moment? Is anything more important than this? Many of these pastors are working towards burnout—going hard, doing services, spinning plates, and working jobs. What if we could provide a retreat and gatherings for groups of pastors, bringing them together and facilitating this much-needed koinonia? To encourage them to rest and to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit like never before? Is there anything more important that we could do for them?

We felt the Lord speaking to us loud and clear that this was something He was calling us to do. As our team prayed, God gave us a plan and even put people around us to make it happen.

We sensed the Lord leading us to nurture this much-needed koinonia among pastors not only through prayer and teaching, but also by blessing them with moments of true rest—times set apart for both spiritual and natural renewal. From this calling, two expressions of Koinonia were born:

Koinonia Gatherings

Koinonia Gatherings bring groups of pastors and their wives together to share fellowship, testimonies, encouragement, laughter, prayer, and rest. In beautiful hotel settings with all expenses covered, we not only create space to listen to the Holy Spirit, but also take time to honor and care for pastors—praying for them, serving them, equipping them, and refreshing their hearts.

Koinonia Oasis

Koinonia Oasis is different. It is not a program or a conference—it is a getaway, a mini all-expenses-paid retreat designed to give pastors and their families the rare gift of rest. In a beautiful setting, they can pause from the demands of ministry, reconnect with one another, and be renewed by the presence of the Lord. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

Koinonia Through Their Eyes

For the pastors of Baja California Sur, Koinonia is more than an event — it is a gift from God. In this video, you will hear them share in their own words what Koinonia means to them: a time to rest, to be renewed, and to experience fellowship that strengthens their calling. These testimonies reveal the true impact of Koinonia in their lives and ministries.
